Course Description:
This course provides the learner with skills essential for the interpretation and application of quantitative research procedures appropriate for professionals concerned with the study of human behavior from within a discipline in the behavioral or social sciences. The research process is carefully examined, with an emphasis on practical applications and skill-development. Critical concepts and principles intrinsic to research paradigms, study designs, methods of inquiry, measurement techniques and data analysis techniques are presented to equip students with the ability to formulate and to answer research questions. Students are also expected to achieve competency in managing ethical issues in the study of human subjects and proposal writing.
Prerequisite or corequisite: Statistics. Prerequisites: one of the following courses: Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Human Services, Exploring Society or equivalent. Students must also have good writing skill, as required for writing essays and reports.
This course fully meets the General Education requirement in Social Sciences and Mathematics.
