The Academy for Lifelong Learning (A.L.L.) study groups are the foundation of the Academy program. Members design, lead and participate in groups on many subjects and in many formats. A.L.L. leaders seldom lecture because members believe active participation in learning is more fun.

Group sizes are kept small, allowing participants to play an active role in the learning process. All are encouraged to join in the discussions, research or brief presentations. There are no prerequisites, grades, exams or required papers.

Study group leaders are A.L.L. members who are not necessarily experts in the subject areas of the courses they lead. They may be learners too, engaged in a joint enterprise with other participants.

Most study groups meet for two hours once each week Monday through Thursday during the fall or spring term. Study groups may be from four to eight weeks in duration. Study groups featuring all-day trips are scheduled on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Writers Circle groups meet once a month on Wednesdays. Classes meet in space generously provided by organizations and business throughout the Saratoga Springs area, including Empire State College. Return to navigation links
