EMPIRE STATE COLLEGE FEES

The college charges an Orientation fee, College fee, Student Activity fee, Telecommunication fee, a Portfolio fee, and an Individual Evaluation fee. The orientation fee is a non refundable $50 fee that is due at the time of application to Empire State College. The State University of New York (SUNY) requires that the college fee be charged to all SUNY students. The student activity fee has been mandated by student referendum and supports programs of cultural and educational enrichment, recreational and social activities and student publications. The college, student activity, and telecommunication fees are required for each term.

The Portfolio fee funds the services provided to matriculated students in determining their prior learning and in establishing their educational plan. Portfolio services may include evaluation of college transcripts and other documentation of college-level learning, analysis of standardized test scores, portfolio workshops, prior learning credit estimates, the cost of external evaluators, the development of materials to assist students in portfolio development, and the processing and review of portfolios by faculty committees and by professional and clerical staff in regional and central college offices. The portfolio fee of $300 is charged to all undergraduate students upon the initial matriculated enrollment.

The Individual Evaluation fee (IEF) is charged to all matriculated students in their second term. The fee provides for individual expert evaluation for students that request college credit for work or life learning. Not all students request Credit by Evaluation (CBE) services. Students who do not participate, or plan to participate, in CBE activities may have this fee removed by consulting with their mentor. If the student and their mentor determine that the student will not undertake any CBE activity, then a representative from the student's center will email the Student Accounts office for removal of the fee. Students must ask their center to contact Student Accounts on their behalf to remove the fee. Return to navigation links
