MONROE COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND EMPIRE STATE COLLEGE SIGN
PATHWAYS TRANSFER AGREEMENT

(ROCHESTER, NY – Sept. 21, 2009) Empire State College and Monroe Community College (MCC) have signed an articulation agreement that will ease transfer for MCC graduates who would like to go on for a four-year degree. The Pathways Transfer Program is designed to support student success as they move from classroom-based learning at Monroe Community College to a blended model of independent study and online courses at Empire State College.

In the program, MCC graduates enrolled at Empire State College may take 16 additional credits at MCC while transitioning to upper-division courses at Empire State College. For example, a junior might take two MCC courses and three Empire State College courses during his or her first semester.

In tough economic times, earning a bachelor’s degree is one way to prepare for a more competitive work environment. Jonathan Franz, Dean of Empire State College’s Genesee Valley Center in Rochester said “we are very pleased to have the opportunity to offer graduates of Monroe Community College a smooth transition to a SUNY bachelor’s degree program with Empire State College here in Rochester. Students will benefit substantially from the personalized attention our faculty mentors provide as they work together to design degree programs that fit their particular backgrounds and interests. Students also are excited about the Pathways Program’s design that permits them to take courses from both Empire State College and from Monroe Community College during their first couple of terms as Empire State College students.”

“Monroe Community College is delighted to partner with Empire State College, making it easier for students to achieve their educational and transfer goals through the implementation of the Pathways agreement,” said Janet J. Glocker, Ph.D., vice president, Academic Services at MCC. “Students who begin their higher education at MCC receive support through MCC’s Career Center to explore learning and career options early on to ensure their transfer experience proceeds as smoothly as possible.”

All candidates must complete their associate degree (A.A., A.S., or A.A.S.) requirements prior to participating in this program.

Monroe Community College is one of the country’s top community colleges and a part of the State University of New York (SUNY). With multiple campuses throughout greater Rochester, the college offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs and serves over 36,000 students annually. Its broad academic offerings are complemented by comprehensive co-curricular and residence life programs that give students a complete college learning experience. The majority of MCC students transfer to four-year colleges following their studies at MCC. Visit www.monroecc.edu for more information.
