Four Saturdays
November 1, 8, 15 and 22, 2008

Earn College Credit
Students can earn 4 to 8 college credits for participating in the workshop and completing a research or creative project. SUNY cross-registrants welcome.

The Workshop
In this workshop, you will learn the theory and practice of documentary photography with New York City as your subject. You will have opportunities to review and to work on your projects under the guidance of documentary photographers. Students also will work with the Triage Project, which has been documenting New York City’s “crises” over many years. Student work will culminate in an exhibition. Internships also are available.

  • Craig J. Barber, photographer and master of the pinhole picture, who travels and works exclusively with the pinhole format and focuses on the cultural landscape.
  • Jill Freedman, documentary photographer and author of Old News: Resurrection City, Street Cops, Firehouse and Ireland Ever.
  • Michael Kamber, photojournalist, freelancer for The New York Times.
  • Larry Racioppo, staff photographer for New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
  • Damaso Reyes, photojournalist whose worked appeared in the United Nations Development Programme and principal photographer of “The Europeans Project.”
  • Perry Tourtellotte, archeological photographer, ethno-photographer and author of On the Silk Road.
  • Brian Young, photographer and master printer.
  • Mel Rosenthal, photographer, workshop leader and author of In the South Bronx of America and Villa Sin Miedo, Presente!
  • Pamela Parlapiano, workshop leader, photographer and author of Quest for Dignity.
  • Eugenia D’Ambrosio, photographer and teaching assistant.
  • Hardy Rosenstein, photographer and teaching assistant.
  • Shaun Gamboa, photographer and teaching assistant.
