How to Apply for Distance Learning
How do I apply to be a degree seeking student studying completely at a distance?
If you are ready to become a degree-seeking student (matriculated) at Empire State College's Center for Distance Learning, please follow the instructions on the " Apply for Undergraduate Study" page.
What if I just want to take a few courses?
If you would like to study at Empire State College but do not plan to pursue a degree, you can still earn credit for online courses by enrolling as a nonmatriculated student. Nonmatriculated study can be an excellent way to hone your skills, train for employment, earn credentials and increase your marketability. Credits earned as a nonmatriculated student may be used at a later date toward a degree with Empire State College (as it fits into a degree program), may be transferable to another institution or may be used to fulfill life or work requirements. Although nonmatriculated students are not eligible for financial aid, they have the same opportunity to study in areas of their interest as matriculated students. Nonmatriculated students do not need to complete the college's admissions application.
How do I register for courses?
If you have not registered since fall 2006 or if you are a new nonmatriculated student, you need to call the Center for Distance Learning at 800-847-3000, ext. 2470 to obtain your student identification number and instructions prior to registering for courses. You will be notified of your offiicial registration into courses via an emailed registration confirmation. Current nonmatriculated students register through MyESC (www.esc.edu/myesc).
