Cross Registration in Courses at Other Colleges and Universities

Academics Home > Modes of Study

Students looking for classroom style interaction can often cross register for specific classes at other accredited colleges and universities and receive credit from Empire State College.

Although the College enrolls students for whom a full classroom schedule is usually not possible, many students wish to take courses at other colleges and universities from time to time. You may incorporate formal coursework into your learning contracts, when appropriate and convenient, through cross registration.

Precise arrangements for cross registration depend on the nature of the institution at which the coursework is taken. The university centers, the colleges of arts and science and the colleges of agriculture and technology of the State University of New York charge the same tuition as Empire State College. Thus, Empire State College students who take a course at one of these institutions pay no additional tuition.

There are also a number of Empire State College locations that participate in cooperative agreements with local private institutions, allowing exchange of students without additional tuition charges. Normally, however, taking a course at a private college or university, a community college or another State University of New York institution during the summer entails paying the tuition of that institution. A proportional reduction in Empire State College tuition is allowed when the student follows the necessary procedures described in detail in the Undergraduate Catalog.
