Live Locally, Learn Globally Conference: Developing Online Communities
The Center for Distance Learning’s first regional conference for the academic community was a success for the 100 eager participants who came together in Saratoga Springs on June 10th for a day of sharing their academic experiences, exploring distance education, and networking.
The morning began with an introduction by conference co-chairperson, Julie Shaw, of the Keynote speaker, Joseph Moore, Ph.D., President of Empire State College. He spoke on “Making Connections: Distance Learning and Adult Learning,” before presenting Nicola Martinez with the SUNY Chancellors Award for Excellence in Professional Service.
Morning sessions were open to the public while afternoon programs and roundtable discussions were focused for CDL faculty and staff. Topics throughout the day included Online Orientation, Adult Learning the the Online Environment, Curriculum Development, Online Learning Instructor Methods, and Multimedia in the Online Environment.

People gathered after the concurrent sessions for a wrap-up by conference co-chairperson, David Caso, who gave the closing address and announced upcoming plans for the 2007 CDL conference.
Graduation Changes
November 5, 2006, is the last fall graduation offered by the Center for Distance Learning. Starting in 2007, graduations will move to the spring. The 2007 CDL graduation date is June 9.
Empire State College Student All College Conference
The 2006 Student All College Conference will be held on November 3-4 at the Gideon Putnam Resort in Saratoga Springs, New York. The theme of this year's conference is "Diverse Experiences: Students as Part of the Community of Scholars." The conference is designed for Empire State College students to showcase their learning and knowledge, share academic discoveries with peers, and reach across boundaries of space, discipline, and difference. The conference will publicly recognize the extraordinary work done by our students. Limited scholarships are available. College Events
