CDL Students — Creative Inspiration

Creativity is a common thread among Empire State College students. The students highlighted below are redefining themselves in their roles as students, artists, and members of their own communities. Read their very interesting stories...

Georgene Nitzsche Fighting Injustice in Aging and Society
After reading an assigned article titled "Eldertopia: A Vision for Old Age in a New World," authored by Bill Thomas, the “light bulb” clicked on. What was needed was a radical approach to the issue of elder Americans; a way of life that would ensure dignity, kindredship and, above all, independence.

Erica and Annalee Jackofsky The Homegrown String Band
At a Homegrown String Band show, listeners are treated to the sounds of fiddle, guitar, harmonica, mandolin, clawhammer banjo, banjo ukulele, mountain dulcimer, doumbek, jawharp and old-time family-style singing, as well as some percussive flatfoot dancing.

Korkean Dulgerian, David Kolb, Anthony Koslowski Creative Students in Emergency Communications
Three Empire State College students who studied emergency communications discovered that preparing for and responding to a pandemic might require more creativity than normally associated with emergency response.

Ruth Frisenda Creating Children's Literature
My project was to retell a Native American legend in a picture book format for children. The book is called Blue Bird & Coyote. It is based on a Native American folk tale of how the blue bird and coyote came to have their colors.

Salie Davis Student Reporter
The first student contributor to CDLConnection, Salie Davis is enrolled through the Center for Distance Learning, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in creative marketing and technology.

Lynda Guerin Raising Awareness of Breast Cancer
My most recent endeavor was a breast cancer benefit on Saturday and Sunday, October 22-23, 2006. I wanted to raise some money for breast cancer awareness.

Sarah Carter Creative Gaming
I also have to think of ways to provide the kids with visuals to aid their understanding, plus think of ways to hold their attention since most of them have ADD or ADHD or some other learning disability.
