Profile

Richard Iuli has been involved in environmental education efforts for more than 25 years. In 2007, he was selected to participate in a rigorous training program, the Climate Project, led by former Vice President Al Gore, to spread the message about the threat of and solutions to global warming.

Each Climate Project participant took part in an intensive series of meetings about issues surrounding global warming, led by Gore and a team of renowned scientists and environmental educators. In addition, each received technical training to become experienced presenters of a version of Gore’s computer-based slide show, which became the basis of his best-selling book and documentary film, “An Inconvenient Truth.”

He has made presentations throughout central and western NY, discussing how individuals and businesses, schools, and other organizations can be a major part of the solution to the growing crisis of global warming

Iuli has conducted research on forest tree diseases and plant root-soil interactions. More recently, Iuli’s research has focused on the development of student conceptual understanding of science and knowledge mapping. He sees his involvement with The Climate Project as great way to enhance his efforts towards improving science teacher professional development and students’ science literacy in high need school districts across New York state.

Iuli has a B.S. in natural resources conservation, and an M.S. in botany and plant pathology from the University of Maine, and a Ph.D. from Cornell University, in science education, curriculum & instruction.
