Profile Dr. William J. Ehmann has a background in geology and ecology that he has used to teach college and university science courses and to conduct research in desert, montane, grassland, and deciduous forest environments. Research specialties include animal community ecology, ornithology, and succession theory, featuring extensive field work in remote areas of Nevada, Utah, Colorado and Montana. Administrative roles have included founding and leading programs at public and private niche colleges with specialized missions, such as being focused on women students, the environment and sustainability, and the needs of adult learners. Since 1997 he has been a “Faculty for the 21st Century” member of Project Kaleidoscope (Washington, DC); from 2002-07, he was an Ecological Society of America “Certified Senior Ecologist”; and in 2008 will be a featured alumnus in “We are ND”, a book published by the University of Notre Dame.
Ehmann earned his Ph.D. in biology-ecology from Utah State University, Logan, UT; his Sc.M. in geological sciences from Brown University, Providence, RI; and his B.S. in Earth Sciences from University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN.
