DEFERRAL OF TUITION, FEE AND EMPIRE STATE COLLEGE BOOKSTORE CHARGES AT EMPIRE STATE COLLEGE AND FOUNDATION LOANS

When each student enrolls, the college defers the student's tuition and fee charges on the basis of financial aid awarded by the Financial Aid Office. The student is responsible for paying from their own personal funds any amount due that is not covered by pending student aid.

If you are eligible to receive a financial aid refund, you may use this credit to order and pay for books available at the Empire State College Bookstore by completing the Empire State College Bookstore Financial Aid Promissory Note which is available at the MyESC forms center. (Please note that you must have the promissory note on file with the Bookstore prior to ordering by phone. The student is responsible for any college charges that result due to the cancellation or reduction of the student's financial aid.)

Foundation Loans

If you will not be purchasing your books at the college’s bookstore, you may request an Empire State College Foundation Loan – amount not to exceed $500. The loan is an interest free advance against any financial aid refund that you may be eligible to receive after your college charges are paid. The Financial Aid Office is currently processing foundation loans for eligible students that request them for the May 2009 term. Foundation loans can be requested for the September 2009 term on or after August 4, 2009. To receive a Foundation Loan, you must be registered and a financial aid credit must be in place before you contact the Financial Aid Office at FinancialAid@esc.edu or call at 800 847-3000 or 518 587-2100. Also, if you are receiving student loans you must have a valid electronic master promissory note on file.

NOTE: If you borrow a Foundation Loan or order books from the Empire State College bookstore and your financial aid is reduced or cancelled, you will be responsible for the book charges and repaying the Foundation Loan

Deadline Information

The priority deadline for applying for federal campus-based aid including Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) and Federal Perkins Loans, Aid for Part-time Study (APTS) and Empire State College Grants and Scholarships is April 1st prior to the start of the award year.

The priority deadline for applying for Pell, TAP, student loans and submission of the Federal Appeal Form and/or New York State Waiver Request Form with dean's approval and appropriate documentation to the Financial Aid Office is 6 weeks before the start of the term.

Financial aid files completed after the financial aid priority deadline date will be reviewed. However, Student Financial Services can not guarantee that financial aid will be processed before the payment due date. A federal financial aid file is complete when the college has received valid FAFSA data from the federal processor and all other documentation requested by Student Financial Services. Completed files and APTS Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
