Courses Available for Nonmatriculated Students (Non-Degree)

Overview:
Are you looking for teacher certification with a fast track into the classroom?
With our Master of Arts in Teaching degree program, you can begin teaching in middle or high school in just one year. Study part time for the first year, then work full time as a paid, entry-level teacher while completing your graduate study. The ideal candidate has a strong background in the content to be taught, a bachelor’s degree, excellent academic skills, experience or strong interest in online learning, and interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with students to provide leadership in high-need schools.

Empire State College Master of Arts in Teaching program offers certification in the following content areas:

BiologyMathematics

When you enroll in the program you will have the opportunity to:

  • Earn alternative certification after only one year of graduate coursework and required field experience in the classroom
  • Fulfill introductory requirements while continuing your current employment
  • Work full time as a certified teacher (entry level) under the guidance of a mentor teacher and an Empire State College faculty member as you complete the final two years of the program
  • Complete the entire master’s degree program in three years studying part time
