Dr. Alan Davis, President of Empire State College
Dr. Alan Davis became president of Empire State College on August 1, 2008.
Photo of Dr. Alan Davis Dr. Davis has studied and worked at traditional and open institutions in the UK and Canada, and has played leadership roles at the British Columbia Open University, Athabasca University, Niagara College and Vancouver Community College.

His education was focused originally on chemistry, and he holds a B.Sc. (Honors) from the University of London and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in chemistry from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. As an academic leader, his work has included the development of new and unique undergraduate and graduate programs, the development of online university consortia, the management of online learning, and the development of prior learning assessment and recognition.

Dr. Davis is also a published playwright, and has worked for many years in community theater. He is married with four children.
