All About the Arts

WHAT ARE THE ARTS?

At Empire State College, you can develop individual studies as well as whole degree programs in the practice, history and criticism of the visual, performing and media arts. You can focus on a single art form; combine elements in an interdisciplinary concentration (i.e., "arts and social change," "learning with and through the arts," "arts and human development"); or develop a thematic organizing framework for your entire degree (i.e., the absurd in the arts). Additionally, special programs in the performing and the visual arts (the Studio Semester and the Photography Program) are offered at the Metropolitan Center in New York City.

WHAT DEGREES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE ARTS?

As a regionally accredited college in the State University of New York, Empire State College offers the following individualized degrees in the arts:

  • Associate of Arts
  • Associate of Science
  • Bachelor of Arts
  • Bachelor of Science
  • Bachelor of Professional Studies

If you wish to continue your studies on the graduate level and/or become a practicing artist, you should consult the guidelines for professional degrees which have been developed by professional associations such as the College Art Association and the American Theater Association.
