Business, Management and Economics Home >

WHAT IS BUSINESS, MANAGEMENT AND ECONOMICS?

The area of Business, Management and Economics (BME) consists of programs that allow you to pursue educational and professional interests and provide a solid foundation to function in a changing world. They include studies leading to an understanding of organizations and of the interactions among consumer, government, not-for-profit and private sector interests.

In order to function professionally, you need the skills necessary to effectively negotiate the internal functioning of your institution with the external economic and social interests of the global marketplace. Empire State College offers you the opportunity to pursue your professional and academic interests through programs designed to develop the skills necessary to flourish in this economic landscape.

Additionally, as part of your program design, you will explore opportunities to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and, as you will be dealing with a growing diversity in your organizational environment, develop an appreciation for our multicultural heritage. You will also learn effective use of computer technologies as well as economic principles and quantitative methods.

WHAT DEGREES ARE AVAILABLE?

As a regionally accredited college in the State University of New York system, Empire State College offers the following individualized degrees in Business, Management and Economics:

  • Associate of Science
  • Bachelor of Science
  • Bachelor of Professional Studies
  • Master of Arts
  • Master of Business Administration

The associate in science degree provides a foundation in the core business areas (e.g. accounting, economics, management) as preparation for further study. The bachelor of science and bachelor of professional studies degrees allow you to develop a full concentration within a business field. The key difference between the two bachelor's degrees is that the bachelor of science degree requires more credits in the liberal studies component (e.g., humanities, social sciences). The majority of students pursue bachelor of science degrees, particularly if they are thinking about earning a graduate degree in the future.
