The Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program at Empire State College is designed for educators, artists, writers, activists, lifelong learners and others who, in collaboration with their faculty mentor, want to create the design and focus of their graduate degree plan. These are people with experience, imagination and creativity – active learners who value an interdisciplinary sequence of studies focused on a central theme, concept or issue.

The Master of Arts in Liberal Studies is a 36-credit program that includes 12 three-credit courses. There are three required courses (early in the program), eight electives that are developed in collaboration with your faculty mentor, and one concluding course focused on your final project.
