COMMUNITY AND HUMAN SERVICES:
OVERVIEW
Students considering human services professions such as urban planning, allied health, childcare, and mental health have many options at Empire State College. This area explores human needs and values, as well as social conditions. Your exploration helps prepare you for a wide array of helping professions and community service roles – from working with individuals and groups to solve problems, to helping communities in emergencies, to managing social service organizations.
The degree you design in the helping professions can center on a specialized topic, such as family intervention, substance abuse services, or encompass more general areas, such as management skills and counseling approaches. Your studies help you develop analysis and communication skills, as well as knowledge and skills in the delivery and management of social services.
