Application Priority Dates
To be considered for undergraduate admission you must:
- have a high school diploma, G.E.D. or the equivalent,
- demonstrate ability to pursue college-level work through your application,
- complete the application form.
In Addition:
- Students will be admitted based on the teaching and support resources available.
Application Requirements
Completed Application - The admissions application is divided into two parts. Part I asks for basic information that you can quickly supply. Part II asks about previous education and employment. Part II also requests that you submit a thoughtful essay of at least 250 words about your readiness to undertake independent study and about your educational goals. Please respond fully to these questions. Be specific about your goals. This essay is an important aspect of the admissions process.
- $50 Orientation Fee - This fee is nonrefundable. Send a check or money order payable to Empire State College to Admissions, Empire State College, 2 Union Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or pay by MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express. If paying by credit card please include type of card, credit card number and expiration date. This fee is waived for active military.
- Proof of High School - Students who have earned a degree from an accredited college or university will automatically be cleared for proof of high school. Proof may be in the form of one of the following:
- high school transcript, copy of diploma. If your high school education is from a country other than the United States, that credential must be evaluated by World Educational Services, www.wes.org/esc.asp;
- G.E.D. documentation; official transcript(s) from a regionally accredited college or university showing completion of 24 U.S. regionally accredited college credits distributed as follows: 6 semester hours in English, 3 semester hours in math, 3 semester hours in natural sciences, 3 semester hours in social sciences, 3 semester hours in humanities, and 6 semester hours in any other courses.
- Official Transcripts - Required for all institutions you have listed on your application. It is essential to have your official transcripts sent as soon as possible. Please make arrangements with the previous institutions you have attended to send official transcripts directly to Admissions, 2 Union Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Please do not send copies of transcripts, certificates, licenses or other documentation of noncollege learning at this time.
- Immunization - Applicants born on or after January 1, 1957 (except those applying to the Center for Distance Learning or Center for International Programs), must provide the college with proof of immunization against measles, mumps, and rubella
 , or obtain an exemption for religious or medical reasons. The required proof must be submitted at the time you submit your application.
International Students
International students interested in coming to the U.S. to study with Empire State College must obtain an I-20 and apply for a student visa. For more information, please see the International Student Services page.
