ATTENDANCE AT THE RESIDENCY
The boat dock at Camp Huntington
Students from all Empire State College centers, units and programs are invited to participate. Attendance is an integral and required part of this study. Students are expected to keep a journal with field observations, notes on the common readings and reflections on ideas presented at the residency workshops. Each student also will do additional academic study under the direction of the tutor. At the time of registration, each student will select from the contract studies a topic that will be studied in depth over the fall period of enrollment. Credit is possible at either the undergraduate or graduate level, except for courses listed as introductory only.
Participation Required:
- Completing a common reading related to the residency theme,
- A commitment to complete this work before the residency,
- Formal enrollment for this study with the student’s primary mentor, as the residency itself is part of the credit-bearing studies,
- Attendance and active engagement at the residency.
Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from the residency. However, this year we will again offer an informal car-pooling effort, which students have found helpful.
A list of contract studies available through the residency is available online. The residency fee is $120, inclusive of meals and lodging (tuition and college fees are separate). Space at the residency is limited; participants will be accepted in order of their registration. The optional preresidency learning experiences (October 13) require an additional $45 fee. Students enrolling in the pre-residency course, "Watersheds of the Adirondacks," must pay an additional $50 fee to cover the cost of the plane ride. Those students must also sign an insurance waiver.
Registration deadline is September 5, 2008
