Exercise 11b: Sentence Fragments - Advanced

The sample sentences have been repeated for you in the space provided. Combine the following sentences so there are no sentence fragments. Then click the SUBMIT button to compare your work to sample corrections. Note that there are many ways to do this; just provide one.

  1. While the social worker was there. He met with Dr. Garvey and the parole officer. About Kim.

  2. Kim had a long rap sheet. Made worse by her recent arrest at the fun park. Where she was caught stealing from the man who runs the carousel.

  3. The social worker made some surprising discoveries. Kim had once been in treatment. For Multiple Personality disorder. The doctor told him. One of her personalities was a thief.

  4. When the parole officer heard this. He scratched his head. Clearly Kim needed psychiatric help. Should this latest arrest be seen as a violation of her parole? Technically. Yes. But if one of her seven personalities committed the crime. Should all of her be punished?

  5. The social worker and parole officer agreed. They would talk with the judge. If Kim's trouble with the law was simply a result of mental illness. Shouldn't the focus be on getting her help? Rather than punishing her for something over which she had no control?
