The Receptionist is the first point of contact for the Brooklyn Unit. Duties will include the following:

  • Greet all individuals coming to the Brooklyn Unit and direct them accordingly
  • Answer telephones, respond to standard inquiries concerning college activities and procedures, and refer more technical questions to appropriate staff
  • Prepare a variety of documents in required format, for example, correspondence, lists and tables, forms, charts, standard reports and purchase orders.  Examples include RSVP lists for alumni/student events and scheduling rooms and tutoring appointments on a table of days and hours available
  • Assist with the new student orientation process
  • Use software packages, such as standard word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, college distributed information databases, desktop publishing and integrated software packages
  • Receive incoming mail, sort and distribute to staff.  Send outgoing mail
  • Operate and maintain office equipment.  Resolve routine problems with equipment and systems
  • Support the offices of student services and academic support functions of the Metro center
  • Take digital photos for student and employees IDs and events.  Upload, receive and distribute college IDs
  • Order and monitor office supplies  

The incumbent will work closely with culturally diverse faculty, staff and students in a multicultural learning work environment.

WORK HOURS:  8:30 am to 5:00 pm with one hour for lunch

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must have taken and passed a NYS Civil Service examination and be reachable off the Civil Service eligible list.
