Elluminate Live Web Conferencing Tool to be Upgraded to Blackboard Collaborate 12

Background

Elluminate Live was acquired by Blackboard Inc. in July 2010, and has been further enhanced and renamed Blackboard Collaborate. The Office of Integrated Technologies will be upgrading to the latest version of Blackboard Collaborate over the next few months. This decision was motivated by significant cost savings as a result of participating in a SUNY-wide contract led by SUNY ITEC.

Upgrade Process

The migration to Blackboard Collaborative will involve the following:

  • The current Elluminate product will be decommissioned and replaced by Blackboard Collaborate.
  • All active or used rooms will be newly created in the SUNY ITEC Blackboard Collaborate 12 product.
  • All unused rooms will be removed.

OIT will work with each room owner/moderator individually to ensure that this upgrade/transition is as seamless as possible. Rooms that will be used by the Center for Distance Learning Fall 01 language courses will be the first to be upgraded. The next group will be the Elluminate rooms used by all remaining faculty that are teaching for the Fall 01 term. Faculty teaching after Fall 01 and all the administrative offices will follow.

The upgrade and transition is expected to be complete by Dec. 1, 2012.

If You Have Elluminate Recordings

As part of the migration to the SUNY ITEC contract, OIT will be unable to transition or migrate any Elluminate recordings. If there is a recording that needs to be saved, we will provide you with a tool that will enable you to save and download the recording. This tool is Blackboard’s Publish V2. You can convert the recorded sessions to high-definition video podcasts that capture whiteboard content, shared applications, chat transcripts and all audio.  All recordings remaining after Dec. 1 will be deleted from the server.
