The Center for Distance Learning at Empire State College dedicates this on-line resource center to the international business students, faculty and practitioners around the world. As a non-traditional college of arts and sciences, the College has pioneered the use of electronic resources as an integral part of its post-secondary educational programs. We are thankful to GE Fund for their generous grant in making this key resource available to the educational and business community.

The need for a virtual resource center for international business for educational community is vital. An all encompassing globalization of the world economy in general, and of U.S. businesses in particular, has increased the need for rapid access to relevant, timely international business information. To keep students of international studies abreast of change, an increasing number of educational institutions are restructuring their business programs to include an international component to the core studies. This increased pace of curriculum expansion renders even the most recent textbooks and business curricula obsolete. To keep pace, students, faculty, and business managers are increasingly seeking information for instruction and research on the Internet.

Information technology has added a new dimension to the teaching and learning of international business. Educators in business regard the Internet as an important tool for both classroom and non-traditional modes of education, research, and general communication among students and faculty. Utilizing the Internet as an instructional resource, it is now possible for students and faculty to gain fast and reliable access to up-to-date information located anywhere in the world. The International Business On-Line Resource Center has been built as a navigational tool to locate such information.

We hope that this virtual resource center will add breadth and depth to international business information resources available to the users of this service and will enhance the quality of their academic and research work.

Meg Benke, Ph.D.
Director, Center for Distance Learning
