Mary Ellen R. Keeney Appointed Director of Human Resources at SUNY Empire State College
(SARTAOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – August 4, 2010) Mary Ellen R. Keeney, of Philadelphia, Penn., has been appointed director of the Office of Human Resources at SUNY Empire State College, effective Aug.9. As director, Keeney will be responsible for managing all human resource functions in the office. She will lead the human resources team, overseeing operations and functions including employee benefits, immigration, payroll, performance programs, professional development, and recruitment. She will represent the office on new or proposed initiatives, assess office procedures, and consult with the college senior management team on personnel issues and policy matters. She will work closely with the assistant vice president for labor relations and the affirmative action officer, and also will serve as a liaison with state agencies such as SUNY System Administration, Research Foundation, Office of the State Comptroller, Department of Civil Service and GOER. She has held positions of increasing responsibility at a number of educational and health organizations.

Keeney comes to the position after, most recently, serving as chief human resources officer and senior vice president at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Before that, she was vice president for human resources at Roger Williams University, assistant vice president for human resources at the State University of New York, Upstate Medical University and director of human resources and community health services at Oswego Health, a nonprofit community hospital and health care system.
Keeney has a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial and labor relations from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, and a Master of Arts degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix, in Arizona.
