LSAT Sample Score Percentiles

Interpretation of Scores

For tests administered since June 1, 1991, the L.S.A.T. score scale ranges from 120 to 180. Scores reported on a standard scale permit direct comparison of scores achieved by candidates tested at different times when those scores are reported on the same standard scale. The actual numerical value of a score has meaning only when compared with scores achieved by other candidates on the same scale. To aid you in the interpretation of L.S.A.T. scores, we have included below a percent below value for each test score. The percent below values reported in Table 1 below are for scores earned since June 1, 1991, and show the percentages of test scores below each scaled score for the most recent three-year period: I999-2000, 2000-2001, and 2002-2003 testing years.

Law schools set their own standards for selecting entering classes. Schools differ in the emphasis they place on test scores compared with college records, honors or awards, recommendations, and other information. Candidates are strongly urged not to decide which law schools to apply to solely on the basis of their L.S.A.T. scores. The candidates should first consult the current admission data provided by law schools in the ABA-LSAC Official Guide to ABA-Approved Law Schools (2004 Edition)or the 2003-2004 LSAT Registration and Information Book-Canadian Edition, which contains information regarding Canadian common-law law schools. In these materials, most law schools provide information about the standards they are applying in selecting the class for the current year.
