President’s Office Staff
Dr. Alan R. Davis became president of Empire State College on Aug. 1, 2008.
Davis has devoted his career to higher education with a focus on alternative and progressive teaching, learning and scholarship.
As an academic leader, his work has included the development of new and unique undergraduate and graduate programs and the expansion of open learning, in all its aspects.
Davis studied and worked at traditional and open institutions in the United Kingdom and Canada, and held leadership positions at the British Columbia Open University, Athabasca University, Niagara College and Vancouver Community College.
He holds a B.Sc. (Honors) from the University of London and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in chemistry from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia.
Davis, a married father of four, is also a published playwright and for many years participated in community theater.
