Visualizing Mathematics
Course Goals and Objectives
Students will learn to:
- apply knowledge of similarity and scale factors to determine the perimeters, surface areas and volumes of similar polygons.
- determine the Theorem of Pythagoras and relate it to real world situations.
- define pi as a number and identify its uses
- compare and contrast the variety of methods used to calculate the Tunnel of Samos problem.
- make decisions based on a mathematical analysis of the facts.
- identify mathematics in nature.
- make connections between mathematics and our environment.
