Course Goals and Objectives

Students will learn to:

  • apply knowledge of similarity and scale factors to determine the perimeters, surface areas and volumes of similar polygons.
  • determine the Theorem of Pythagoras and relate it to real world situations.
  • define pi as a number and identify its uses
  • compare and contrast the variety of methods used to calculate the Tunnel of Samos problem.
  • make decisions based on a mathematical analysis of the facts.
  • identify mathematics in nature.
  • make connections between mathematics and our environment.
