It’s time for SUNY Empire State College’s 3rd Annual Student Art Competition. Students are encouraged to submit art work online to be reviewed by a committee of judges across the state. Any type/medium of art is accepted for judging, but it must be submitted as a two-dimensional electronic image and be appropriate in content in order to represent the college.
The winning piece will be announced and the winner recognized at the annual Student Academic Conference. The first place winner’s work will be printed in poster form and displayed throughout the college. First, second and third prize winners receive a monetary award; there are two honorary mentions as well.
Art work for the 2011 competition is currently being accepted until May 6. Submit work as a PDF at www.esc.edu/studentart (login required). On the site, students click ‘New Main Topic’ and complete the Poster Submission Form.
Last year’s winner, at left, titled “Plant an Urban Garden,” a linoleum cut by Alejandra Delfin, was announced at the 2010 Student Academic Conference held in White Plains, NY in November. Her compelling image in earth tones represents an urban garden and showcases Delfin’s special talent for innovative composition and use of shape, space and color. Delfin’s poster is included in various publications and displayed across the college.
Second place in the 2010 competition was taken by Claudia Rocha Van Holt for “Crowning Achievement.” Daniel H. Lee won third place with a piece entitled, “Abstract.” Honorable mentions went to Hillary Anzis Hostetler and Marian Whalen.?
