March is Women’s History Month

Every year during March much focus is devoted to the achievements and advancements of women.The women's movement in the United States began in a flourishing feminist era in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Women lobbying and working for equality commenced with a public appeal for women’s legal rights, such as the right to vote and hold public office. 

This journey hit its heights in the 1960s and 1970s when the movement concentrated on seeking opportunities for women to progress economically, to achieve well-paid employment and to hold significant positions in the marketplace. Movement organizers and their supporters addressed issues such as personal life at home and in the community, and public politics and governmental affairs. This movement touched on every aspect of women’s experiences, including: sexuality, socialization and careers.

There are many major events in women’s history. Here are a few of the more notable ones. The Women’s Rights Convention in 1848 drew 240 attendees to Seneca Falls, New York and served as a forum for discussions about social, civil and religious conditions, as well as the rights of women. The Women’s First Voting Act/Public Office Privilege in 1869 in which Wyoming’s territorial legislature passed a bill giving women the right to vote and to hold public office. Esther Morris was appointed the first woman judge in American history. The Women's Trade Union League in 1903 held in Boston, Massachusetts was comprised of women at all levels of the socio-economic spectrum. It was formed to support the efforts to eliminate sweatshop conditions. The organization also fostered women's trade unions by studying working conditions and promoting protective legislation for female workers.

March is National Nutrition Month

For all genders and age groups, nutrient-rich foods provide stamina and energy that are useful and necessary for the human body to operate effectively. According to the American Dietetic Association, “by incorporating a colorful variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and dairy into your meals every day” you can maintain adequate health and wellness. NationalNutrition Month “focuses on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.” 

Proper nutrition is essential for many things such as growth and development, avoiding fatigue, preventing chronic disease and keeping minds sharp and bodies strong. It is imperative to ensure a proper diet to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.
