SUNY Empire State College offers several useful career resources for students. The first is at http://subjectguides.esc.edu/careers, with reliable information on the entire career process including writing a resume, taking assessments and looking into graduate school. This site also offers tips on preparing for a job interview or negotiating a salary.
A second resource is on the Areas of Study (AOS) website. Go to Undergraduate Areas of Study and click the link for the specific AOS of interest for information about futures with a degree in that field as well as some relevant concentrations.
A third resource available to SUNY Empire State College students and alumni is Optimal Resume at https://esc.optimalresume.com/. This site features thousands of resumes and cover letters to jumpstart ideas on how to write one. Users can create and save resumes and cover letters in an online portfolio, and create interactive interview sessions, which they can watch afterwards to critique.
A fourth resource is Smarthinking, familiar already to students for its tutoring and writing services. In addition, Smartthinking professionals will review and comment on students’ resumes and cover letters. Those who already have a Smarthinking user name and password can access this service at www.smarthinking.com. To obtain a user name and password, visit www.esc.edu/esconline/myesc.nsf/html/smarthinking.html?opendocument&login/.
