Troops to Teachers

TTT Program Update

Effective October 1, 2021, the Defense Department (DoD) sunset the Troops to Teachers (TTT) program. As part of the Defense-Wide Review (DWR), the DoD has realigned TTT program resources to higher priority programs more closely aligned to the National Defense Strategy. Review Program Sunset FAQs for more information.

In case of reauthorization, complete the Program Interest Form to ensure you are notified of any funding changes.
Some state offices continue to assist TTT participants, who registered/applied to the program, until May 2022.

Troops to Teachers (TTT) assisted transitioning military service members to begin a career as public school teachers by providing counseling, referral services, assisting them to meet education and licensing requirements, and securing a teaching position.

Eligible individuals could have received a stipend of up to $5K to help pay for certification costs, or a bonus of $10K to teach in schools serving a high percentage of students from low-income families.

Those accepting the stipend or bonus agreed to teach for three years in targeted schools in accordance with the authorizing legislation.
