| Women’s Studies is the interdisciplinary academic field that has emerged in the last 30 years and ranges across a broad number of topics including economics, historical studies, science, math, and psychology, to name a few.
Studies that incorporate the Women’s Studies Residency, offered in the March 2009 term, will include: Economics of gender, race, and family; The historical and contemporary barriers to the full participation of women in the sciences; Genetics and women; The myriad issues that permeate mother-daughter relationships in real life as well as in writing; The personal and professional accomplishments of the mother-daughter team who developed the most widely used personality test (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator); Issues of power, privilege, and oppression shaping social identity while examining how they influence relationships (e.g., family, peer, professional); Shaping a Global Women’s Agenda in the 20th Century; and Voter Math.
The residency is one of the learning activities in the Women and Gender Studies courses being offered through the residency. These courses fulfill SUNY general education requirements as identified in the individual course description. Students enrolled in these courses will complete course work through at-a-distance independent study, blended with on-line course components and the on-site group residency meetings in Saratoga in May 2009. Online registration will be held between January 27 – February 27, 2009.
