Directions to the facility and other information can be found on the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts site.
Please be aware of traffic and plan accordingly.
When turning into the Tilles Center, please follow the direction of parking lot attendants. Parking is free.
Students are required to wear a cap and gown (regalia) to participate in commencement, and they should already be dressed in their regalia when they arrive for the commencement ceremony. Information on how to purchase regalia will be made available in early 2019 on the SUNY Empire State College commencement website. If students have concerns about purchasing regalia, the college has some on hand that is available to loan on a first-come, first-served basis. Please email us at Commencement@esc.edu for information on Commencement Closet or to request regalia.
Keep in mind that at commencement, there will be no place to store valuables such as bags and purses. Students should either plan to leave valuables with their guests or place them in something small enough to fit under their regalia.
The SUNY Empire State College Commencement Ceremony on Long Island will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 1 p.m. The ceremony will start promptly at 1 p.m., so students should plan to arrive no later than noon to check in and line up.
Arriving students must check in and receive a name card. After checking in, students should head to the hallway they are assigned. Directions for the processional will be given to students when lining up.
The ceremony will last about 2 hours.
Accessibility and Accommodations
SUNY Empire State College reasonably accommodates students with disabling conditions. Students or guests who may need accommodations should contact Commencement@esc.edu as soon as possible so that arrangements may be made.
Tickets are required for each guest attending the commencement ceremony and guests will be limited to eight per student. Students will indicate the number of guests when they RSVP for the ceremony. Please note that children who require their own seat will need a ticket. However, children who can sit on a lap will not get a seat, and will not require a ticket.
If students no longer need tickets they have already requested, please email email@example.com or call 516-876-4414 to let us know so that we may release them for other students to use for their guests.
Tickets for guests will be available at the Tilles Center Box Office from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019 as well as the week before commencement. Please designate one person in your party to pick up the tickets, as they will all be in one envelope under the student’s name.
Theater doors will open for general seating at 12:30 p.m. Guests will need a ticket to enter the theater, but it is first-come, first-served, open seating.
Please note that balloons and strollers are not permitted in the theater.
Since our students complete their studies at different times throughout the year, diplomas will not be distributed at the commencement ceremony. Instead, each student will receive a SUNY Empire State College medallion when they cross the stage.
The Office of the Registrar will send a diploma to the address on file for each student once they have fully graduated from the college. Please direct any questions regarding diplomas to the Office of the Registrar at 800-847-3000.
During the ceremony, a photograph will be taken of each student after they cross the stage. A free photograph will be available to each student following the ceremony by visiting On the Spot Photos. Visit On the Spot Photos to learn how to achieve the perfect pose for your photo!
Please be aware that impromptu photographs may be taken throughout the ceremony.
For security purposes, no audience member will be permitted to stand in the aisles to take photographs or video.
Immediately following the ceremony, there will be a reception. Light refreshments will be served. Students and guests are invited to attend.
