Decision Support (DS) collects, analyzes and disseminates information to support institutional planning, decision making, and reporting at Empire State College. Decision Support consists of four functional areas: institutional research, outcomes assessment, strategic planning, and business analytics, which includes data warehousing, initiatives in information management and supports for decision making. The office is overseen by Eileen McDonnell, Executive Director for Institutional Effectiveness.
One component of Decision Support is learning outcomes assessment. The goal of learning outcomes assessment is to engage faculty in assessment activities that are meaningful, empirical and time and cost effective and that improve student learning experiences and programmatic rigor. This goal is consistent with the expectations of the U.S. Department of Education, the State University of New York (SUNY) and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
