These concentrations are designed to meet the needs of emergency responders, firefighters, military personnel or other professionals who are working full-time and looking to advance their careers in these fields. Students in these programs earn a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree in Public Affairs.
Empire State College offers these programs in cooperation with the National Fire Academy, the Emergency Management Institute, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency as agencies of the Department of Homeland Security.
Students may also be able to apply for credit for college-level learning obtained from training programs conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and state emergency management agencies. Emergency medical services licenses and CPR certificates may also qualify for college credit.
Some training has already been evaluated for credit by the American Council on Education (ACE) or by Empire State College. The college accepts credit recommendations of the institutions below.
