About SUNY Empire Educational Technologists

Educational Technologists are located strategically across SUNY Empire to offer both online and face-to-face support as needed to the whole college community. EdTechs:

  • Work with faculty to enhance teaching and learning by introducing new and emerging educational technologies supported by the college.
  • Consult with faculty to develop and implement pedagogically sound materials or tools for instructional use.
  • Design and deliver workshops and trainings for online tools and media.
  • Reach out to faculty and staff with individualized approaches.
  • Assist faculty in creating and integrating open educational resources (OERs) into their courses and learning opportunities.


The EdTechs seek to improve access to engaging and high quality technology-enhanced learning opportunities to students across Empire State College.


The Educational Technologists (EdTechs) work with Empire State College faculty, staff, and students to enhance instruction and learning through promotion of pedagogically sound models when using technology, online tools, and multimedia for teaching and learning. The EdTechs across the state collaborate with faculty and staff to create technology-mediated learning experiences and to integrate a variety of ITS-supported technologies to support pedagogy and learning goals.

Educational Technologies Staff

Coming from a background in music education, performance and technology, Kim has worked extensively in the application of technology in student-centered pedagogy, student engagement and success. She has seamlessly translated her expertise in the acquisition of musical skills and techniques to further the faculty’s effectiveness in the creation and use of digital artifacts, learning objects, and emerging platforms in their pedagogy. Current work and research include the on-going development and understanding of digital fluency in higher education and its implication on the faculty and students at Empire State College.

Lindsay’s research interests include pop culture studies, distance learning, pedagogy, assessment, queer studies, and performance. Her education experience includes teaching in face to face, online, and hybrid courses at several institutions. She has taught courses in composition, literature, speech, business writing, and film. She has been the recipient of the Faculty of the Year Award at Mandl School and the Outstanding Faculty Advisor of the Year at SUNY Suffolk County Community College (for the Queer and Allied Student Union). She is an active member of the Dramatist Guild of America, the Northeast Modern Language Association, and the Pop Culture Association of the South. She is currently contracted to co-edit a book on RuPaul’s Drag Race and Pedagogy with McFarland.

Background in music education, performance and recording. Interest in Community of Inquiry model through student collaboration within the online learning environment and the engagement of the digital learner in a constructivist-based learning environment. Interests and research regarding asynchronous video learning tools, open educational resources, accessibility and digital community to enhance online learner engagement. Teaches courses instructional technology, instructional design, digital literacy and social media marketing.

Michael’s interests include the gamification of education, especially through the application of video games in the classroom as part of an overall educational strategy. His background is in philosophy, focusing on the search for identity in a digital world, and education, completing his master’s in curriculum design and instructional technology through SUNY Albany’s online program. His educational experience includes teaching in face-to-face environments as well as designing online courses. He is an avid player and gamemaster in Dungeons and Dragons and is constantly looking for new ways to adapt the storytelling medium to the classroom.

OERs are learning resources made available in the public domain.  They are licensed in a way that allows others to use and modify them to align with your learning goals. Since Jan. 2019, the Educational Technologists have been producing the Educational and Emerging Technologies Podcast: Where Dedicated Mentoring Meets Innovative Technology.

Every other month we release an episode with faculty mentors to discuss their use of technology, and how it enhances student engagement and learning. The podcast series covers timely topics and has a broad reach in terms of areas of interest.  We focus on what works well and identify lessons learned when using technology with instruction.
