SUNY Empire State College’s Genesee Valley region serves more than 1,000 students annually. Anchored by the economically successful and diverse Rochester/Monroe County area with its emphasis on agriculture, health care education and technology, the region is also home to more than 5,500 Empire State College alumni. The main center in Rochester coordinates teaching and learning activities at its four locations in Alfred, Batavia, Canandaigua and Corning-Elmira, extending its educational reach along the Genesee river valley from the Pennsylvania border to Lake Ontario.

Our region’s faculty mentors work with each student pursuing a degree, from registration through graduation. Mentors help undergraduate students develop customized degree plan programs that best support their individual needs and interests. The most popular areas of study are business, management and economics and community and human services, but students are able to pursue concentrations in a range of options in the liberal arts and sciences available across the college.

There are a variety of ways to learn and engage with the college. Most popular among Genesee Valley students is the guided independent study, in which students work individually on a one-to-one basis with a faculty mentor, either face-to-face or via distance-learning technologies. Students also enroll frequently in group studies where interactions with each other in a seminar format enrich their learning experiences and provide opportunities for collaboration and presentation of group projects. Genesee Valley also offers a wide range of workshops, co-curricular activities and social events, from workshops on time management, to discount tickets for local performances of live theater to networking events with alumni and friends of the college.

All of us in the Genesee Valley region are looking forward to working with you to help you achieve your personal and professional goals.
