Jan 18 - New Features and Enhancements in Moodlerooms
Information Technology Services has completed the Moodlerooms 2.9.3 upgrade.
In addition to the feature enhancements that were part of the upgrade, there was also a complete redesign of the site theme.
A complete list of system changes, documentation on utilizing these features, and known issues in the Moodlerooms 2.9.3 release can be found in this knowledge base article in the Technology Help Desk and Support Services web site.
Theme: A new theme was introduced for all online courses. This new theme reflects the trend to a more modern look and feel for our courses. The new theme meets accessibility guidelines and is compatible with a wide range of assistive technology. The overall design for a course using Module Tabs and Blocks for navigating areas of your course and Moodlerooms remains the same.
My Courses Block: The My Courses link, formerly located in the menu bar at the top of the Moodlerooms Home page, is no longer available as a drop down menu. The My Courses Block replaces the menu link and is located throughout the Moodlerooms site. This allows for easy navigation to courses from within a course.
My Courses can also be found as a link in the Navigation block. Both blocks can be docked in order to increase the web page space available for displaying course content.
Course Overview Block: The Course Overview Block can be configured to display courses in the user’s preferred order by using the Move feature within the block. The number of courses to display within the block can also be configured. For instructions on adding and configuring this block visit the Course Overview Block knowledgebase article.
Improved My Profile Navigation: There are several changes to navigation regarding profile settings:
- The Administration Block is no longer available from the Moodlerooms Home page. The Administration Block is still available in courses.
- The My Profile Settings located in the Administration Block has now been replaced with a Profile Menu located under your User Name in Moodlerooms. This menu can be accessed from any course/page in Moodlerooms.
- The My Home in the Navigation block page is now Dashboard and is located under the Profile Menu and in the Navigation Block.
LEARNscape: LEARNscape (http://learn.esc.edu) is a simple yet robust open source media platform available to the Empire State College community for managing videos and other rich-media content.
LEARNscape is fully integrated with Moodlerooms and provides users with a seamless way to manage their media library, for students to submit media assignments, and for faculty to include media and media assignments in their courses. Media created or added through the Moodlerooms integration is automatically stored in LEARNscape.
As part of the Moodlerooms upgrade, the many guides in the Moodlerooms Learning Center and the self-paced training courses are also being updated. Some of the guides and courses may display the old theme and slightly different information until the updates are complete.
