Seana Logsdon, a 2018 Recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service

Officer in Charge Mitchell S. Nesler presented Seana Logsdon with the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service at the 2018 commencement event in Manhattan.

Seana Logsdon, director of academic support, is a 2018 recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service.

This award provides SUNY-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and encourages the ongoing pursuit of excellence.

“I am deeply honored to be recognized with this award,” said Logsdon. “I am so very fortunate to work with colleagues who are committed to maintaining SUNY Empire State College as an exciting and innovative place. For me, this recognition reflects the work of many, not of one. It remains my goal to maintain a student-centered approach as SUNY Empire State College evolves in the rapidly changing landscape of higher education.”

In addition to a certificate of recognition, Chancellor’s Award recipients are presented with a medallion, which is worn with regalia during academic events such as convocations and commencements.

“It is a tremendous point of pride for the entire college community when our students, faculty and staff are recognized at this level for their leadership, professionalism and academic excellence,” said SUNY Empire Officer in Charge Mitchell Nesler. “It is an honor to offer my congratulations to all of this year’s recipients, whose accomplishments were celebrated by the college throughout commencement season.”

SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson said, “Our faculty and staff educate, inspire and support our students to pursue their passions; they are the driving force on campus. Those we honor are leading this effort through their commitment to their craft and their dedication to our students. I am proud to celebrate and honor this year’s SUNY Empire State College recipients.”

A resident of Batavia, N.Y., and one of six directors of academic support, Logsdon has been with the college for 11 years.

She oversees academic support programming and staff for the Genesee Valley and Western New York regions, including Buffalo and Rochester.

Together with her staff, Logsdon ensures students have access to, and take advantage of, onsite and online subject-specific tutoring, support for study skills, including study skills workshops, and the college’s writing and math centers.

Logsdon's professional interests include metacognition, interactive online learning resource design and embedded academic support within coursework as an alternative approach to traditional developmental approaches.

She was the principal investigator for a Tier One SUNY Innovative Instructional Technology Grant, “Using Targeted OERs to Develop Core Academic Skills in the Disciplines.”

Logsdon led a grant team with members from academic support and educational technology who produced nine interactive academic support OER (open education resource) videos that may be used as a stand-alone resource or embedded in credit-bearing courses.

Logsdon received her award during the college’s commencement ceremony at Rochester, held on Thursday, May 31, at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
