SUNY Empire State College Alumna and Associate Professor Susan McConnaughy '77, a mentor in Community and Human Services at the college’s Hartsdale location, has been named a Fulbright Scholar for the fall 2019 term, at the invitation of Dalat University, located in the central highlands of Vietnam.

McConnaughy will teach “Social Work in School Settings” to undergraduate social work students and collaborate with Dalat faculty to develop and teach their own social work courses, a new area of practice in the emerging social work profession in Vietnam.

The president of Dalat University, Le Minh Chien, wrote in his letter of invitation that McConnaughy will provide a model of practice-based instruction and she “… can also help us as a consultant in designing social work field practicum, aiding faculty research and facilitating the provision of social services in local social agencies.”

McConnaughy said, “I am beyond excited and moved that I get to have this opportunity at this stage of my life to do a ‘capstone study’—to reflect on my work, my assumptions and my values as a child counselor/therapist over 42 years and to share my thoughts with others who will question me.”
