Cuba: Cultural Renderings

The title is inclusive of the many media that will be shared at this event including: photos, film, and scholarly presentations.

Photos taken in Cuba by photographer and Empire State College Mentor, Mel Rosenthal, will be on display in the Central Arts Gallery where we will host a reception.

Ruth Goldberg, Empire State College mentor with the Metropolitian Center, will show a selection of Cuban film clips and will guide a discussion about this vibrant cultural industry on the island.

This will be followed by Nadine Fernandez, Empire State College Mentor with the Central New York Center, who will discuss her new book, Revolutionizing Romance: Interracial Couples in Contemporary Cuba (2010 Rutgers University Press). She will be joined by Jill Hamberg, an Empire State College Mentor with the Metropolitian Center, who will discuss urban planning issues in Havana.

The program will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday April 9, 2010 and go through the Central Arts Gallery reception at 7 p.m.

We will also provide a webcast of the scholarly presentations. (The webcast will begin on April 9, 2010 at 4 p.m. est). 

Mel Rosenthal's photos will be displayed through April 15, 2010.
