Why Vote - Posters, Politics and Propaganda

poster with Kennedy era election memorabiliaThe Central New York Center held its fifth annual open house on Sept. 27 featuring the political exhibit, "Why Vote: Posters, Politics and Propaganda." The exhibit, curated by Alan Stankiewicz, Central New York mentor in East Syracuse and Utica, is a retrospective of presidential election year memorabilia dating back to the 1960 Kennedy/Nixon election.

On loan from the private collection of William T. Cleveland, the exhibit. runs Sept. 27, 2012 through Jan. 21, 2013 at the Central Gallery located in East Syracuse. Visit the gallery's homepage for hours of operation and directions.

An expert panel discussion kicked off the opening of the exhibit.

Panelists included:

  • Dr. Mark Soderstrom, chair, Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, Empire State College
  • Bob Bellafiore, founder, Stanhope Partners; former press secretary and deputy chief of staff, New York Gov. George Pataki; former political reporter
  • Steve Greenberg, founder and president, Greenberg Public Relations; Siena College pollster; communications director for former New York State Comptroller H. Carl McCall; communications director for two former assembly speakers.
