“As the anniversary of Sept. 11 approaches, it is appropriate to remember the individuals who died in those attacks and the many ordinary people and heroic first responders who saved so many lives.

“The courageous acts of those at the scene continue to inspire and to provide opportunities to reflect on all that is good about unity and service for the benefit of society.

“Every effort, great and small, done with Sept. 11 in mind moves the nation in the right direction.

“I join President Barack Obama, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher in pledging continuing service in memory of that tragic day, remembering those who perished in the attacks, sharing the grief of the families of the victims, and honoring the heroic efforts of first responders and the everyday people, who also found themselves managing a crisis.”
