SUNY Empire Alpha Sigma Lambda Chapter Inducts Inaugural Members

(SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY — December 8, 2023) On Thursday, December 7, 2023, Empire State University held its first induction ceremony for membership in Alpha Sigma Lambda, the national honor society for adult students. SUNY Empire’s chapter, Omega Tau, inducted 103 students in its inaugural cohort.

The ceremony was held online, and was attended by inductees, their guests, and SUNY Empire faculty, staff, and administration. President Lisa Vollendorf provided opening remarks. Melissa Wells, assistant professor in SUNY Empire’s educational studies department and advisor of the university’s chapter, served as emcee.

Alpha Sigma Lambda’s mission is to advance the scholarship and acknowledgment of post-traditional students continuing their education. Induction criteria include completing a minimum of 32 credits toward an associate or bachelor’s degree; holding a cumulative GPA of at least 3.7; and participating in the annual induction ceremony.
