(Baltimore, MD — November 8, 2023) SUNY Distinguished Service Professor and Professor of Adult Learning and Mentoring at Empire State University Alan Mandell was presented with the 2023 Morris T. Keeton Award at the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) Conference in Baltimore, MD on November 8, 2023.

The award, given to a leader committed to making experiential learning an integral part of education, increasing access for adult learners and minorities to postsecondary education, and improving the theory and practice of assessment, teaching and learning.

In his more than four decades with SUNY Empire, Mandell has served as an administrator, mentor in the social sciences, and director of the university’s Mentoring Institute. He edits the journal, All About Mentoring and co-edits the first international online journal on prior learning assessment, PLA InsideOut. Mandell regularly makes presentations at conferences; facilitates workshops; and serves as a consultant/reviewer on many projects on adult learning, mentoring and experiential learning.
