SUNY Empire Concludes Successful Food Drive

The Office of Advancement has wrapped up its month-long food drive.

Food Drive Collage

(SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- July 17, 2023) Throughout the month of June, non-perishable food and personal care items were collected at locations in Saratoga Springs, Rochester, Buffalo, and Selden, with a one-day drive at the 4 Park Ave. location in Manhattan, led by the Black Male Initiative, during the Juneteenth event on June 17. The month-long effort collected more than 500 pounds of food. Contributions were donated to local organizations around the state.

The food drive was held in conjunction with the inaugural Community Conversation, entitled “Food Insecurity: Looking Beyond the Refrigerator.” The event featured presentations by two faculty members, Himanee Gupta and Duncan RyanMann.

Community Conversations will explore some of the most pressing social issues of our time and ways that we — as individuals and a university — can help provide solutions. The gatherings will be led by our alumni, faculty, staff, or students and open to all members of the university community.
