The New York State Higher Education Committee meeting took place on February 14 with the introduction of Chancellor King. Following an overview of SUNY initiatives, Chancellor King addressed the committee and welcomed questions from senators. Senator Iwen Chu highlighted SUNY Empire State in reference to a recent discussion with President Vollendorf with the committee.

Senator Iwen Chu said, “A few weeks ago, I had a meeting with the SUNY Empire president. She explained how her school and campus has a high percentage of students who are remote. They also have a partnership with a local army base so those in service can also finish their college degree. I think that’s brilliant and really something we can be supportive of as a way to expand higher education.”

Senator Chu’s statement accurately reflects our Points of Pride regarding our title as SUNY’s leading online institution.

"Our online courses are designed to be taught online. The pandemic ushered in new competition looking to launch or expand their online offerings, but SUNY Empire is decades ahead of them. Our classes aren’t traditional classes taught remotely. Ours are planned, prepared, and developed by instructional designers and faculty steeped in online course design best practices, from learning objectives and assessments to faculty/student interaction, online student support, technology, and more."
