Government Sources

Governmental sources of funds include:

  • Subsidized Federal Stafford Loans: interest is paid by the government and students must begin to repay this loan six months after they graduate.
  • Unsubsidized Stafford Loan: allows the student to borrow additional monies beyond the maximum Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan cap.
  • Perkins Loan Program: this has traditionally provided relatively small levels of funding for law students. Nevertheless, it is worth investigating as a source to fill in the gap left by other sources, if needed.

For precise information pertaining to the minimum and maximum amounts of monies made available by each of the above sources and application materials, as well as other financial aid matters in general, please investigate further the U.S. Department of Education's website at www.ed.gov .
