Frequently Asked Questions About the New Grading and Evaluation Policy

You can view your GPA on your online academic summary.  The link to your online academic summary is listed on the My Records tab of MyESC.  Click the Academic Summary link.

You can estimate your future cumulative GPA by first viewing your GPA on your online academic transcript in Banner. Then, you can go to the online GPA calculator.

GPA is a result of the total GPA quality points divided by the total credits you have taken at Empire State College.  To calculate your GPA, multiply the numeric value for each letter grade by the number of credits to determine the quality points for each graded study or course. Add up the quality points. Add up the total number of graded credits. Divide the total quality points by the total number of graded credits. That yields your cumulative GPA.

Your GPA is only calculated on grades received at Empire State College.

Pass/No Pass grades do not count towards your GPA.

Full Credit/No Credit grades do not count towards your GPA.

If you do not complete the course work by the agreed-upon deadline, you will receive an F grade, which will be factored into your GPA and has a negative impact.

If/when you repeat a course, the first grade is not counted in your GPA.  The replacement course’s grade is included and counted in your GPA.
